Description
Delco Carousel IV-A inertial navigation system. Inertial navigation system (INS), nicknamed "CIVA", is a navigation aid that uses a computer, motion sensors and gyroscopes to continuously calculate the position, orientation and speed of an aircraft using inertial navigation without the need for external references. It was perhaps the most popular inertial navigation system before the widespread adoption of GPS in the 90s. CIVA was installed on the 707, 727, some 737-100 and -200, DC-10 and L-1011 Tristar aircraft, as well as on early variants of the 747-100, -200 and -300. This CIVA was developed primarily for use with the 727 series in FlyJSim. It can be installed on any other aircraft.
