MSFS 2024 - what's new in Sim Update 5.1 (1.7.35.0)
Update 5.1 has been released for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Let's look at what has been fixed: from stability and electrics on glass to WASM crashes on ATR and Aerostar 600.
Microsoft has rolled out Sim Update 5.1 (build 1.7.35.0) for MSFS 2024. There is no big feature pack here, this is more of a technical update - they fix stability, memory and bugs that have accumulated since previous updates. But there is something important inside, especially if you have a complex community folder with addons.
If you have problems with stability or long loading times
Before launching a new version, you should temporarily move the packages from the community folder to another location and run the simulator without them. Outdated packages in the community folder can unexpectedly affect the performance and behavior of the game after an update - this primarily applies to old addons that have not been updated by the developers for a long time.
Stability and performance
We have improved texture quality processing (mip streaming) under high memory load, as well as terrain degradation when memory is low. Plus we cleaned up several crashes and general memory work.
Electrics on glass cockpits
We fixed a bug due to which the avionics periodically “thought” that the circuit was de-energized, although in reality everything was in order. This caused random system reboots and loss of functionality - an unpleasant thing, especially in instrument flight.
Career
Mission availability times now take into account runway lighting at departure and arrival airports. If there is enough light on the strip, the mission can start or end at night.
Miscellaneous
The combustion effect in fire helicopter missions has been corrected. A bug was fixed on PS5 that prevented missions from launching with a heavy load.
Traffic
We fixed the problem with pushback for third-party traffic addons - before it simply did not work.
SDK and addon developers
On PS5, an error with HTTPS requests from Coherent was fixed due to problems with SSL handshake.
In audio, a delay of one frame was corrected when calculating attenuation for legacy sounds on WAV.
WASM-API received important fixes: the base virtual memory address for WASM modules on PS5 was fixed - this eliminates crashes on the Aerostar 600. WASM crashes on PS5 were also fixed for modules built on SDK 1.6.9 and later - this applies to the ATR version for MSFS 2024. We added support for dynamic loading of VFS files on demand, so as not to consume extra memory when working with file streaming via WASI.
In the JS API, we have corrected the mixed up parameters in the new methods of the weather radar listener on the map, added in SU5.
What does this mean for you
If you fly with addons on the ATR or Aerostar 600 on PS5 and have caught crashes before, the update should fix it. If your glass cockpit periodically got stuck with the avionics for no reason, that’s what they fixed too. Otherwise, this is an update about stability under the hood, without revolutions, but with real fixes for those who have encountered them.
